Every time you open a magazine or go online there is at least one ad about how to lose belly fat. It seems everyone wants a flatter stomach. Though it may seem impossible, there are ways to reduce your waist line. But there is no quick fix, otherwise everyone would have a flat tummy. Through proper diet and exercise you too can reduce belly fat and have that flat stomach you've always wanted.

Diet

There are several foods that can help you on your way to flatter abs. Some are them you may already know, and others may surprise you. Eat these four foods in the right proportions and you will see results:

  • Lentils - If you're looking for a more healthy alternative to refined pasta, lentils are good option. As well as being versatile and inexpensive, lentils contain important vitamins and minerals like protein, iron, potassium and healthy carbohydrates that help you feel full longer to prevent excessive snacking. If you're not sure what to do with them, they go great in soups and flavorful North African, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine.
  • Tea - The health benefits of tea are numerous. Besides providing antioxidants to fight cancer and purify your system, tea, particularly green tea, can also help you lose weight and hone a tighter tummy. If you avoid the bottled variety that can contain too much sugar and other additives, two cups of green tea can speed up your metabolism and give you natural energy.

  • Peanut Butter - Although many dieters avoid peanut butter for its high fat content, in the proper amounts it has many benefits for weight loss and general health. The niacin in peanut butter is good for your digestive system and prevents bloating in the mid section. Keep an eye out for sugarless varieties.

  • Vitamin C - Eating fruits and vegetables high in vitamin C has been linked to weight loss and are said to burn more fat. Also the sweetness of oranges and mango can replace unhealthy snacks high in sugars and fats.

Exercise

Most people's first instinct as far as exercising to lose belly fat is suffering through hundreds of crunches. Crunches will help tone the midsection, but not reduce it. In addition to spot training exercises, you should also incorporate some aerobic and cardio workouts in your routine. Running or jogging are some of the best full body workouts. But if you think running is no fun, you could try biking outdoors or swimming.

Weight training is another good exercise to lose belly fat. It reduces overall body fat and builds muscles, which burn more fat, provide more energy and take up one third less space than fat. Some people, generally women, tend to shy away from these exercises because they think they will become bulked up with muscle. The good news is you won't. The vast majority or women do not have a tendency to put on excessive muscle. Weight training will give you a leaner, stronger and more energetic body.

Whittling waistlines has become a national obsession, but a few changes in your diet and daily routine can help you rise above the it. Remember, simply spot training and only focusing on toning the ab muscles isn't enough to reduce your waist. Cardio-aerobic exercise is absolutely essential for a flat mid drift. Find an exercise you actually like to do so you'll be consistent. The same goes for the belly slimming foods. Healthy eating doesn't have to be tasteless, and there are plenty of recipes out there that make lentils and vitamin C tasty.
