Diet

Watching your diet by eating right is probably one of the most effective natural acne cures. Research shows the evidence of a solid link between diet and the development of acne. There is also a solid belief among researchers that there are certain foods that influence the development of acne. Diet with high carbohydrate content, especially carbohydrates with high glycemic index (or foods that make your body’s sugar levels to spike) greatly influence not only the development of acne, but also its severity.

Conversely, there are certain foods that can minimize, if not prevent the development of acne. Below are some tips on which types of food you should include in your diet, and which food contains the essential vitamins you need to cure acne.

  • Food rich in Vitamin E – Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant. It provides a lot of skin benefits, one of which is promoting healthy skin cells. Eating food rich in Vitamin E (sweet potato, mangoes, asparagus, broccoli, papaya and tomato products) will help counter acne production.

  • Food rich in beta-carotene – Beta-carotene, also known as Vitamin A, helps in preventing acne by helping reduce the oil production in the skin and strengthening its protective tissue. This vitamin maintains and repairs the skin tissue, so it is safe to say that it promotes healthy skin. Eating foods rich in Vitamin A like carrots and squash will supply your body with this essential vitamin, thereby increasing the chances of fighting acne.

  • Food rich in zinc – Zinc is a mineral that can be found in our body. It is an antibacterial agent and one of its functions is helping the body heal itself and aids in protecting it against premature aging. Zinc-rich foods include beans, nuts, almonds and whole grains. It is known that low zinc diet can cause acne breakouts.

  • Include chromium in diet – unlike Zinc, chromium is a mineral that cannot be found or made in the body. This must be included in our diet. This mineral is popular among weight loss products because it is responsible in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol synthesis. While its main function is to aid the body in losing weight, it can also help in reducing acne by healing them and preventing future acne breakouts. Food sources of chromium include apple, banana or spinach.

  • Fruits and vegetables – Fruits are known to supply vitamins and minerals. Some fruits contain anti-oxidants that fight harmful free radicals. Generally speacking, incorporating a lot of fresh fruit and vegetales in your diet is a great long-term way to prevent acne and many other much more dangerous diseases.
