Worldwide Travel - 5 Tips for Aspiring Travelers

Don't we all want to travel the world? See the Great Pyramids in Egypt or maybe take a snapshot of the Taj Mahal in India? Or maybe marvel at the New York skyline while at the top of the Empire State Building? Or spend the weekend soaking up the sun in Malibu?

For most us, travel is an adventure, or maybe it's a childhood dream and today, it is realistic: annual travel has become affordable to many people, not only to the super rich as it used to be. But whatever it is, we all know that we can't just travel on a whim. We can't just buy a plane ticket and throw caution to the wind – well, maybe we can do that, but that's only if we know someone in that part of the world. The point is, in order to be a smart traveler, and in order to really (and I mean, REALLY) enjoy our trip, we have to know a few things first. And this article will tell you just that.

Here are five tips for all you aspiring globe-trotters out there:

1. Plan your travel

This is probably the most essential of all. Before you go tell your friends that you're going out of the country, and before you inform your boss that you're going to take a leave off work, you have to plan first. Cover the basics: Where do you want to go? When? Who are you going with? How long are you going to stay there? Is it peak season (because if yes, chances are, your airfare will be twice as much, and you don't want that)? Where are you going to stay? Do you know a friend who lives there, or are you just going to rely on yourself? These are the questions that you have to ask yourself (and ensure that you have answers) before you embark in any journey. Keep the necessary formalities in mind: pack your passport, do some research to find a cheap worldwide travel insurance. Are their any necessary vaccinations you should get? Do you need a visa?

Planning a travel isn't easy, especially if you're not skilled in the area. But trust me, this is important. A well planned travel is a guarantee that you will enjoy your vacation, no matter where you go.

2. Do your research

Now that you have covered the basics, and you have purchased the plane tickets, your next step is to do some research about your destination. What will be the weather like? For example, if you want to see the cherry blossoms in Japan, you wouldn't want to go there during the summer (because they only come out during spring). What are the famous delicacies in that country? Do your research and be sure to try out their cuisine! I mean, you can't miss original Belgian chocolates and waffles while you're in Belgium, or the famous Kimchi in Korea. Next, be familiar with the country's language, and be sure to buy a travel guide with the common phrases used, so you will be able to get around without being frustrated of the language barrier. Also, know the currency conversion rates, so you will have an idea how to spend your money there. Also know the location of the hotel that you'll be staying – is it near the scenic spots, what are the amenities, etc. Most importantly, do some research on the famous sights of that country and make sure that you visit them. Make sure that you don't miss the opportunity, because you don't know when you're coming back. Make the most out of your trip!

3. Be a smart packer

Now that you've done your research and you're almost ready to go, the next step is what to pack in your suitcase. It is recommended that you pack light – because you'll never know what you will bring home. Be sure to have some space in your luggage in case you find something you really like and it turns out to be an antique statue from Thailand. Also, be prepared for some serious shopping for souvenirs. Remember that you are traveling to explore a new city, and not to bring your whole closet with you. Having the perfect travel kit will save you lots of headache. Make sure you pack basic toiletries, light or warm clothes depending on the weather, an extra pair of shoes, maybe your favorite book to read, and of course, don't forget to bring a camera for those priceless moments!

4. Get to know the culture

So finally you're ready for your trip. After a long flight, you're now ready to explore the city. See the sights, taste the food, buy the souvenirs. While you're at it, get to know the culture. Get to know the people. If you know some friends who live there, ask them you take you to a tour. Or maybe you can make new friends while you're there. Explore their local market, their museums, their local pubs. Traveling is about exploration and adventure. And be sure to do that.

5. Enjoy!

All your planning and research will go to waste if you don't enjoy your vacation. Because after all, this is the reason why you're traveling in the first place. You have to enjoy. Make the most out of your vacation. Take memories with you from your travels. Find something that will endear you to the place, like for example, a quiet time with a cup of tea in a local restaurant. A successful traveler is one who is able to enjoy the whole journey from start to finish.

Just keep these tips in mind next time you think about going to a foreign place. Bon voyage!
